Betty Ruth Nelson was born March 31st, 1931 to John William Nelson and Electa Coltrin, in Mathis, Texas.

She was the middle-born of three siblings, her brother John Sterling and Edna Lois.

She attended school in Mathis from Kindergarten until 12th grade. Once she graduated high school, she attended University of Corpus Cristi, gaining a degree in Music. While there, she met and began dating David Elliott. They would date through the end of their college year, marrying _____ _____ of 195__ in _____, Texas. They would spend their honeymoon in and around the Central Texas area, including New Braunfels, as well as the Gulf Coast.

She was an avid piano player, starting during her school years in Mathis. Wherever David would preach, she would play the piano during the service.

She also taught piano for many years, as a way of bringing extra income into the house. She most likely had hundreds of piano students though the years.

She and David had 3 children: David Wayne, Warren Lee, and Jeanene. She and David had 4 grand children: John Elliott, Alex Smith, and Joey and Jana Ickes

Betty Ruth Elliott, 84 of Highlands, Texas went to be with the Lord on February 16, 2016. Betty was born on March 30, 1931 in Mathis, Texas to John William and Electa (Coltrin) Nelson.

Betty taught piano for many years in the Highlands area and was a devoted member of First Baptist Church in Highlands. In her free time Betty enjoyed playing board games, sewing, supporting her husband’s ministry and most of all spending time with her family and friends. Betty was a very loving, upbeat and caring wife, mother, grandmother and friend, who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, David Elliott and sister, Edna Nelson.

Betty is survived by her son, David Elliott and wife Raylene of Tacoma, Washington; son, Warren Elliott of Highlands, Texas; daughter, Jeanene Ickes and husband Jerry of Highlands, TX; grandson, John Elliott and wife Heather of Blue Springs, Missouri; granddaughter, Jana Kirksey and husband Jonathan of Baytown, Texas; grandson, Joey Ickes and wife Sierra of Baytown, Texas; great grandchildren, Sandra, William, Michael, Camryn, Logan, Sophie, Levi, Lyla; great great grandchildren, Aiden, Kaylee; brother, John Nelson and wife patsy of Dallas, TX; brother-in-law, Bill Elliott and wife Kathy of Port Lavaca, TX; numerous nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2016 from 9am-10am at the First Baptist Church in Highlands. Funeral services will be held at 10am at the First Baptist Church in Highlands with interment following at Sterling-White Cemetery.
