Wednesday afternoon
Dear Papa,
Well, I got the newspapers Monday, and your letter yesterday, so I guess maybe it's my turn to write. I really enjoyed both newspapers, so I hope you'll keep sending them. I appreciate you sending the deposit slip, also. Things like that really help.
I finished Rope School last Friday and got my yellow rope. Being a rope may not be much, but rope school was a lot of fun. It consisted of double-hard inspections every day, a lot of drill, and classroom study on military bearing and traditions, duties of a rope, and how to handle personal problems of other airmen.
Being a student leader is a lot more hassle than I expected. Every morning I inspect all the rooms in the bay, taking roll at the same time. Once every two weeks I have to pull "duty rope". That's four hours of helping in the training office, like I did before I started school. My room has to be the cleanest one in the bay, of course (believe it or not, it's not always the cleanest HA!) I have to make sure that the hall is waxed and buffed, and the latrine, janitor room, and storage rooms are clean. The only privilege is that I don't have to clean any of those except my own room. I just make sure that other men in the bay do it every once in a while.
I called Mr. Griffith the other day, and he said he wouldn't mind palpating Pam for me. I sure hope she's carrying. Let me know as soon as you find out, if you don't mind.
I have about one hundred and seventy dollars coming back from working for the Air Force, but I still haven't received W-2 forms from Glen Miller, W.D. Miller, Price Const. Co, or Dr. Pepper. Try to get Glen's address from W.D. , so I can write to him. Also, ask W.D. if he usually sends them. I won't demand one from him because he didn't take out income tax, so be sure to tell him this. As soon as you get the W-2's from the other places though, please send them to me.
Ask Mom if she mind doing something for me. In the bottom of my closet there is a black suitcase. Ask her to sew up the crotch and send them to me, to cut off for gym shorts. Also, there should be a pair of tennis shoes or track shoes in my closet. I'm losing weight, but my arms and legs are getting weaker, so I'm going to start lifting weights again as soon as I get the jeans and shoes.
Well, I guess I'd better go.
Love always, Dave
