One of the brothers, [[George W. Elliott (1846-1876)|George W. Elliott]], born in Kentucky, was widowed with two young sons, [[John Robert Elliott|John Robert]] and [[Daniel Elliott|Daniel]] in 1875 when his wife [[Martha E. Inks]] died. He remarried a young woman by the last name of Craig in September 1876. 3 days after the wedding, her father, who strongly disagreed with the marriage, shot and killed him on a train platform in Kansas. After his murder, George's mother took John and Daniel to Texas to live with her brother. She later died, and the boys moved to live with their Uncle Lewis.
